Starbucks’ Merlion Frappuccino: Inspired by Singapore

While it's old news to read the Singaporean version of Starbucks' Frappuccino - dubbed the Merlion Frappuccino, we can't really call ourselves "millennials" until we take a sip of this supposed psychedelic drink, do we? not?

The Merlion Frappuccino

The Merlion Frappuccino was born when Youtuber thejetsets uploaded a video of himself trying to order the exclusive American, very enthusiastic about Unicorn Frappucino at the Starbucks store in Orchard Point, where the barista prepared a locally inspired version.

Created in beautiful sunset shades, Merlion Frappuccino inspired by Singapore is a caffeine-free drink made from mango, strawberries, and milk.

A word of advice: you will have to ask the barista to turn the strawberry (or raspberry) syrup in the empty cup, before pouring the mango punch and garnishing the drink with whipped cream and syrup.

We decided to try our luck and visited the branch near our office in Toa Payoh just after the lunch crowd had dissipated. Unfortunately, this off-menu drink was too difficult. We expected sunset hues, but we ended up getting a lighter shade of pink.

Despite rich raspberry notes, we unanimously agreed that our Merlion Frappuccino was too sweet for our taste. That said, the original Merlion Frappuccino we saw online is definitely Instagram-worthy.

It goes without saying that the availability of this off-menu drink is subject to the knowledge of the baristas and the ingredients available to them. If you've had enough of your regular order, why not take a leap of faith and try these Starbucks "Zenged" drinks in Singapore.

  • Expected damage: $ 7 - $ 10 per drink
